Groundcover Page

Groundcovers are used to add color to an area that has had issues with growing other plants, such as under an oak tree or out in the full sun to managing a xeriscape garden. Groundcovers are usually a creeping or hanging plan that trails along the ground and grows to cover a large area. Most ground cover that we have are succulents that are easy to grow and usually very tolerant of weather conditions.

SEDUMS (STONECROP)

Sedum is a large genus of small flowering plants in the family Crassulaceae, members of which are commonly known as stonecrops. Most sedums are a ground cover or trailing species with a few being an taller upright growing species. They are leaf succulents found primarily in the Northern Hemisphere, but extending into the southern hemisphere in Africa and South America. They are best used in part sun to full sun locations and kept on the drier side. They can tolerate cold to zone 4 and are used to cover large areas as they spread easily. Several species can be grown together to provide a nice colorful ground cover.

MIXED SEDUM POTS

Mixed sedum pots have 4 to 6 different sedum species that will add color to any sunny location. Mixed sedum pots can be kept in a container or planted outside.

ICE PLANTS (Delosperma sp.)

Delosperma is a genus of around 100 species of succulent plants, formerly included in Mesembryanthemum in the family Aizoaceae. The family is common in southern and eastern Africa. Most are a trailing or creeping species.

Aptenia is a small group of flowering plants in the family Aizoaceae that come from south Africa. It is a creeping plant that are perennials and can withstand some cold and hot drought conditions. They are at times referred to as ice plants or baby sun rose. They spread quickly and can cover a large area.

SWEET POTATO VINE ‘RAGTIME’ ( Ipomoea batatas )
